Drip drip drip
The rain falls outside my window
As I stare at the deluge coming down
Through the window to the outside world

But it isn’t the garden I see
With it’s waterlogged barbeque and discarded slide
Plants as confused as I am by the weather

My mind instead sees history
Of a tropical storm on a far away beech
Appearing from nowhere on the hot holiday retreat

You danced in the rain
Your white cotton dress clinging and transparent
Following your curves as you followed a tune in your own head

As water falls from your hair,
Tracing the arch of your naked back as you knelt
While we moved together under the shade of trees, bodies joined eternal

As perspiration beads on your face
Your eyes on fire in the afterglow of exertion
The tropical sun to bear witness as we lay together in the sand
